Classic order

There is no mandatory order, but this sequence keeps the room oriented and ends with the people being celebrated.

  • MC or officiant
  • Parent or family host
  • Best man
  • Maid or matron of honor
  • Sibling or close friend
  • The couple

Timing rules

A compact sequence protects dinner service and keeps each speaker from feeling like the sixth act in a show.

  • Cap most individual speeches at 4 minutes
  • Leave 20 to 30 seconds for applause and handoffs
  • Schedule the full block after the main course and before dancing
  • Split the sequence only when there are more than six speakers
