The chair is absurd and true, and 'that is not a metaphor' admits it. The funeral is handled in one quoted line, which is how grief belongs in a wedding speech: as evidence of love, not a subject. Why the funny speech works
The joke is about a harmless flaw the bride is in on, and then the speech turns the flaw into the virtue: late, but entirely there. Take the shape, not the sentences.
